Dental FAQs
Questions are always welcome at Ark Dental. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often from neighbors. If yours isn't here, call us — we're happy to talk it through.
What is dentistry?
Dentistry is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions, disorders, and diseases of the teeth, gums, mouth, and jaw. Often considered necessary for complete oral health, dentistry can have an impact on the health of your entire body.
Why is visiting the dentist so important?
Visiting the dentist regularly will not only help keep your teeth and mouth healthy, but will also help keep the rest of your body healthy. Regular dental care helps prevent tooth decay, protects against gum disease, prevents bad breath, and strengthens your teeth for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
My teeth feel fine. Do I still need to see a dentist?
Yes. Many problems can exist without causing pain or visible symptoms. Your dentist can detect cavities, gum disease, and other issues in their earliest stages — when treatment is simpler, less invasive, and less expensive.
How often should I see the dentist?
The American Dental Association recommends visiting your dentist every six months for regular checkups and professional cleanings. Some patients benefit from more frequent visits based on their individual oral health needs.
What can I expect at my first visit?
We begin with a conversation about what brought you in and what would help you feel comfortable. We review your dental and medical history, take X-rays when appropriate, and perform a thorough exam. Dr. Song will explain what he sees in plain language and leave room for every question before discussing next steps.
I feel nervous about dental visits. Can I tell you?
Absolutely. You never need to hide dental anxiety or apologize for time away from care. Let our team know what you are feeling and we will move at a pace that feels manageable. Your comfort matters more than the clock.
Do you accept my dental insurance?
We accept most major dental insurance plans. Call Ark Dental at (203) 838-3321 with your insurance information and our team can help you understand your coverage before your appointment.
Can my whole family come to Ark Dental?
Yes! Ark Dental is designed to be a familiar neighborhood office for every generation — from toddlers to grandparents. Call us to talk about your family's needs and how we can make visits feel simple and comfortable for everyone.
What if I have an urgent dental concern?
Call us at (203) 838-3321 and tell us what is happening. We will listen and help you understand the most appropriate next step. For after-hours emergencies, call our office and our on-call staff will help you.
What is a dental specialist?
Specialists focus on specific areas of dentistry: endodontists (root canals), periodontists (gum disease), orthodontists (braces and alignment), prosthodontists (implants and prosthetics), and oral surgeons. Dr. Song performs most general and cosmetic procedures in-office and will refer you to a trusted specialist when needed.
