Emergency Dental Care

If you experience a dental emergency, be sure to call our practice as soon as possible. If you need immediate attention after hours, call our office and our on-call staff member will help you 24/7. If you are unable to reach our office during an emergency, dial 911.

Common Dental Emergencies

• Broken or cracked tooth
• Permanent tooth knocked out
• Severe toothache or dental pain
• Lost filling or crown
• Broken jaw
• Object caught between teeth
• Swelling or abscess in the mouth, jaw, or neck

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

Knocked-out tooth: Handle the tooth by the crown (top), not the root. If dirty, gently rinse with water — do not scrub. Try to reinsert the tooth in the socket, or keep it moist in milk or between your cheek and gum. Call us immediately.

Cracked or chipped tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Call us to schedule an urgent visit.

Severe toothache: Rinse with warm water and gently floss to remove any food particles. Do not apply aspirin directly to the gum. Call us right away.

Lost filling or crown: If a crown comes off, try to slip it back on the tooth temporarily using dental cement from a pharmacy. Call us to get it properly secured.
